A famous Christian songwriter once asked the question: why do you wear your cross of gold? And I ask that question now. Is there a reason behind the cross you wear or is it just a fashion statement? Famous singers and actors across the globe wear crosses. But are they wearing it, because it resembles the love of a Man that gave up His life so that His creation may live? Or is wearing a cross considered the in thing to do nowadays? I will let you, the reader decide that as I depict the actual historical significance behind such a sensitive subject. First I will explain what crucifixion was. Then I will talk about the most famous historical event that gave rise to the Christian faith and has brought out some of the most severe controversial discussions in modern society. Finally I will state what the cross means to those born of this world.

The History of the Cross

According to Wikipedia, “crucifixion is an ancient method of execution, where the victim was tied or nailed to a large wooden cross and left to hang there until dead.” This was the severest form of punishment. Humiliation was the biggest reason behind this type of barbaric inhumane death. The criminal was flogged and stripped of all clothing, rank and status. He was sent out in public, naked and embarrassed as he was being forced to carry the instrument of his death. He had to put up with jeers, the laughter and insults along the path of unending darkness that shut out all glimmers of sunshine and hope.

The True Meaning of the Cross

Jesus, the King of Kings, the Lord of Lords. He is the Maker of the Universe and He lives inside us.
