Review: VTech ia5874 Cordless Phone System

The VTech ia5874 Cordless Phone System comes with three handset phone. They all provide excellent sound quality at first but they get worn out a little after a few months. Usually cordless phones do not produce the same clear crisp sound quality as cord phones, but you can barely tell the difference with the VTech ia5874. The range of the phone is great and goes up to about 50 feet. You can really do some gardening work while on the phone.

It does not interfere with my wireless internet network like some other phones do. It truly is versatile because it also comes with a built-in digital answering system that you can call in from anywhere to access and check your messages. The call waiting feature is sure to come in handy.

The downside to this phone is that there is no mute or speaker option. The caller ID is sometimes too dim to be easily seen. If you mount the base on the wall, however, the phone appears very slim and it is extremely convenient. It is also nice looking and not bulky. The phone is a little pricey, but the built-in answering system makes it almost worth it.

You can only use one handset at a time, so there won't be anyone listening in on your conversation. If someone wants to pick up on a call from another handset, the original phone must transfer the call to the new handset. That is a little inconvenient, but it is a plus for those interested in security and privacy.

The handsets are very durable and can survive a few drops. If there is any problem with the phone, however, you can contact the VTech company. Their customer service line is not too bad depending on your luck. They have replacement options for faulty phones.

The volume must be set individually on each handset every time it is in use. It automatically resets to its original volume once a call ends. That can be very annoying when you want the phone on silent at night. The address book must also be set manually on each system, which can be time consuming.
