The Owl Phase of the Atkins’ diet is the second phase of the plan. This phase is also referred to as the “ ongoing weight loss” phase. You will experience a rapid weight loss in the first stage, the introductory stage, now your weight loss will be slowing down a bit. In this stage, you will be adding specific carbohydrates to your diet, which will make the diet a bit easier to stay on. At the same time, your weight loss will be a bit slower. This is not to say that you will not continue to loose weight. You will still continue to loose weight at a steady pace with no problem.

While you are in the Owl phase of the Atkins’ diet, you will be boosting your body’s capability to burn up fats. It is true that you will be adding carbohydrates slowly but at the same time you will be able to remain in a state of ketosis. This means you will continue to use up your stored excess fat as fuel for your body, and as a result, you will experience pounds as well as inches coming off your body.

While in the Owl phase you will learn how to make wiser choices as far as carbohydrates are concerned. You will have recipes as well as guidelines, which will increase your knowledge where nutritious foods are concerned. You will no longer choose carbohydrates in your food choices as you once did. You will not replace them with healthier choices.

In addition you will also learn how many carbohydrates you can consume and still loose the weight you desire. The purpose of this second, Owl stage is to find out just how many carbohydrates you can consume and still have the ability to loose weight. The Owl stage is somewhat an experiment. You will gradually increase your daily intake of carbohydrates from the 20-gram level found in the introductory stage. Every week an additional 5 grams will be introduced into your diet. While in this stage you will need to make a record of how your body responds to this increase. If your weight lose slows to drastically, you will know that you have surpassed your carbohydrates limit.

Takeaways
  • During this Owl stage your body is being prepared for the permanent weight management stage.
  • It is essential to the success of the plan that you count your carbohydrate grams.
  • You will find convenient books that have lists of certain foods and the number of carbohydrate grams they contain.
