Can I Find Cheap Airline Tickets?
How to Find the Cheapest Airline Tickets Possible
I won't say that finding cheap airline tickets is impossible, but its very difficult. In addition, cheap has a different meaning than it had some time ago. Just a decade ago, I could travel with my family of four across the country for less than $500.00. Now a cheap ticket, depending on location could easily be $500.00 each. So cheap is definitely relative. This is a fact that we must accept.Still, I managed to fly my family of four from Atlanta to Los Angeles and back for $300.00 each. This was a cheap as it gets. We employed several techniques and even did an experiment in an effort to get our cheap flights. I am now passing this knowledge on to you.
Check airline comparison sites first. These sites include hotwire, kayak, Travelocity and the like to find out which airline gives the best price to your destination. While there is no one airline that is cheaper than the other across the board, different airlines will cost less depending on which has a main hub in your city, and in your destination city. So don't neglect to do this search first.
Go directly to the airlines website once you know which one is typically cheaper for your trip. Ordering tickets from the airlines website will give you a better deal than you can get even on the discount sites, once you know which airline to order from, of course.
If you are not ready to purchase your tickets just yet, set a travel alert with Hotwire.com as they will monitor prices for your trip and send you an email alert when a cheaper than usual fare shows up. When this happens you should be prepared to immediately go to the corresponding airline and purchase your ticket.
Our failed experiment:
Sometimes after securing an excellent ticket price far in advance, the airline will cancel your flight and give you a refund. The problem they don't always replace your flight with a comparable price and you are forced to find a cheap fare all over again.
