I won't say that finding cheap airline tickets is impossible, but its very difficult. In addition, cheap has a different meaning than it had some time ago. Just a decade ago, I could travel with my family of four across the country for less than $500.00. Now a cheap ticket, depending on location could easily be $500.00 each. Go directly to the airlines website once you know which one is typically cheaper for your trip. Ordering tickets from the airlines website will give you a better deal than you can get even on the discount sites, once you know which airline to order from, of course.

If you are not ready to purchase your tickets just yet, set a travel alert with Hotwire.com as they will monitor prices for your trip and send you an email alert when a cheaper than usual fare shows up. When this happens you should be prepared to immediately go to the corresponding airline and purchase your ticket.
