I’ve waited outside in a parking lot, poorly dressed for the cold and with odd people, for over 24 hours. About a month later I spent more thanI probably should have on a gaming system and games, wished the representative from Sony good luck in telling people thatonly3 of the 6 consoles promised were shipped, got some Sony swag (a PS3 lanyard necklace, pamplets, a poster), and got myself and my PS3 home immediately. I wrestled with the decision to sell it for about 40 minutes before breaking down and opening it. I’m a gamer, don’t judge me. After playing it since lauch day, here are some first impressions on my pretty new PS3.

Online:

The playstation store is clean and fast. At launch only 6 games are availible for download. MotorStorm is fun and exceedingly pretty. Driving with the sixaxis motion controller is intersting for a minute or so, butI play mainly with the regular controls. The 2 games you can demo and buy are a pair of arcade shooters. Cash Guns Chaos and Blast Factor. Both are similar in that you move with the left stick and shoot with the right. Blast Factor is more Galaga, and Cash Guns Chaos is Smash TV. The downside to these games is the lack of multiplayer. Adding funds to my Playstation store wallet and buying Blast Factor ($7.99) was painless. The 95mb file took 5 minutes to download and install. Hopefully Sony can maintain these speeds as more people get their hands on PS3’s. They also have game and Blu Ray movie trailers for download.

Resistance:

When the Ratchet and Clank team said they were gonna make a WW2 shooter I was already sold. I knew the gameplay would be fast and addciting, with unbeatable weapons and it’s all those things. Shaking the motion controller will shed any enemy that sneeks up behind and bites into you. Online play is just as fun as the single player and has the standard fare. Deathmatch and Conversion free for all gametypes and for team based play, Meltdown (node control) and CTF.I havent lagged online at all, but there were a few times where it couldnt find a match. Overall its a great game, not just a great game for a lauch title.
