Use Lattice Work to Increase the Functionality and Value of Your Property

Lattice adds a lot of value to your out-door environment. In addition to the actual increase in physical value of your property, lattice work adds aesthetic and functional value as well. Lattice can be used to reduce snow from drifting onto sidewalks and driveways, which will reduce the need to clear snow drifts caused by wind. It can be used as a wind break to protect plants and reduce wind against the house to reduce utility bills. Lattice can also be used to shade and add privacy to a favorite outdoor area during the summer months and help keep your family cool and comfortable while enjoying outdoor time together. Lattice is a great way to hide trash cans, propane tanks or other outdoor equipment while allowing proper ventilation. When included in outdoor design, lattice can also be used as a perfect divider or border for different sections of your outdoor environment.

Materials you will need include the lattice, C-channel, lattice trim, exterior screws, circular saw and screw gun. Choose a paint or stain that will blend in well with the existing property and pick up a three-inch paint brush. You will also need exterior caulk to help your lattice work project last a lot longer by reducing moisture build up in the C-channel.

Choose and install posts to attach your lattice work frames. If you are using your lattice for a wind or snow break, be sure to install your posts in concrete, approximately three feet deep by two feet across to keep the posts from pushing over from the wind or snow. If your lattice project is simply for lighter applications, such as shade or to hide equipment, a shallower hole about two feet deep by two feet across will be enough.
