Cheese & Coffee Has a Sandwich for Everyone
Cheese & Coffee Gourmet Deli is located at 2679 Louisiana NE in the Encantada Square Plaza in Albuquerque (on the corner of Menaul and Louisiana) near the Coronado Mall.Despite being a small family-owned restaurant, it is always packed, especially during its lunch hours. The restaurant serves both lunch and breakfast, and also does catering. It is only open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Saturdays, 10:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.
If you want a seat for lunch, it's best to get their as close to 11 a.m. as possible, as it fills up quickly.
Nevertheless, it is well worth the wait if you come during their busy times. I have tried several of their menu options.
Sandwiches range in price from $6.50 to $7.95. Most of Cheese & Coffee's specialty sandwiches come with a choice of a salad, which includes Greek, Caesar and garden salad. Although if you happen to choose one that doesn't, no need to worry, as you will be quite satisfied with just the sandwich.
In addition to sandwiches, soups and salads, diners can also feast on a fruit and cheese plate, and homemade cookies or cake of the day.
My parents' all-time favorite and regular selection is the Chelsea specialty sandwich, which features turkey, avocado, provolone and green chili. It is served hot on sour dough bread.
The chicken salad is another great choice. It includes large chunks of chicken and large walnuts. For those who don't eat meat, try the veggie sandwich. It comes packed with ranch, avocado, tomato, lettuce, sprouts, cucumbers and your choice of cheese.
Some of the other specialty sandwiches include the Big Apple with pastrami, corned beef, Swiss cheese, thousand island, Dijon, red onion, tomato, and lettuce on rye; the Sicilian, with capacolla, mozzarella, pepperoni, Italian dressing and tomato.
The restaurant also features gyros, hamburgers, subs, Reuben sandwiches, French dips and lox and cream cheese. There are simply too many great selections to include them all.
