George Phillies is the best prepared so he would run the most consistent campaign. He has been working on this since 1996 so he has some understanding of how difficult the task is.

Mary Ruwart is much stronger than she was the time before when she tossed her cap in the ring and also stronger than she was when I met her in Anaheim.. I would be inclined to support her now but she has too closely tied herself to Ron Paul... she will be mistaken for a conservative, no point in that there are already plenty of conservatives in libertarian clothing running around.

Bob Barr was the author of the patriot act and several other keystones of the George Bush agenda so while he did join the LP two years ago and has been on the National Committee, I think he might still be a part of the movement to make the LP a Conservative alternative to the Republicans, not a good idea in my opinion, also his approach puts me off, he caters to the lets you and him fight populist conservative agenda of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and other Mud Slingers..

The guy from California who has the cancer and other medical problems was also at Anaheim as a candidate. He is someone who deserves some support but not to my mind for president as he has been severely damaged by the present system and that much anger and self pity will contaminate his campaign.

Mike Gravel just came into to the race to promote his democracy projects... nice guy good record in the senate as he is the one who leaked the pentagon papers and took some other great stands for individual liberty and against the coercionists.. I am happy I got to vote for him in the Democratic Party primary, but he isn't serious about gaining the LP nomination.

I liked Root the most because of his sports handicapping background. It is hard to say what the LP will turn into in future years because the truth is that some form of welfare state will always be there and it is hard to stick to your roots as pure free marketers in economic downturns, the people who are being granted the freedom get disgruntled. I also liked Gravel, but I am always skeptical of any kind of sales tax especially a national sales tax.

I agree with you and melpol both. I feel like Libertarians are better fiscal conservatives than modern Republicans, who spend like drunken sailors on every stupid program that comes down the chute! I, too, have questions about Barr's motives, as I have heard quite credible accounts over the years of the GOP trying to infiltrate and eventually collapse the LP, who just happens to be where all the fed-up former Republicans have been fleeing to en masse!

Good article headlining the Libertarian Party convention and debates. There are no politicians with better ideas than Libertarians. But due to their opposition to state capitalism they have been turned into invisible people.
