Decorating can be one of the most enjoyable parts of the season. After all, you can stay in your warm house for the most part and spend time with your family. Most people want to decorate lavishly during the holidays, but their budget will not allow it.
A few ways you can decorate on a budget:
Take a walk outside. You may be able to find "natural decorations". Gather leaves, fallen branches (especially those with Autumn color leaves), pinecones and vines. You can use these items for centerpieces, arrangements or even to make your own holiday wreath.
You can drop a tea light candle in a cleared out glass jar, tie a holiday ribbon around the neck of the jar and you have a great looking candle with Christmas charm. You can put these together in a base of peppermints, nuts or even sand. You can group several together for a climatic effect.
You can do a toy land theme by searching out teddy bears, dolls and other toys at your local dollar stores. Dress them up with ribbons and other holiday fabrics. Then group them under your tree, on mantels, or on your windowsills.
Place a few inexpensive glass balls in a bowl then put some greenery or some left over ribbon among them.
Place seasonal shapes (stars, snowflakes, etc) on your windows. You can do this with paint that is right paint. Just add a teaspoon or so of liquid dish soap to acrylic craft paint, after the holidays it will wash right off. Use a non-scratching dish scrubber if you come across a stubborn spot during removal.
Cut holiday inspired shapes out of poster board, coat one side with glue and then cover with glitter. When they dry, use them all over your home for a sparkly holiday touch.
These holiday decorating ideas will help you save much needed money during the holidays. Each year use your imagination and come up with your own ideas. Make it a family event so everyone in the family can add their own touch to the home.
