How to Safely Travel with Your Dog

It will be very difficult to find someone who doesn't enjoy a fun road trip. There is nothing like hitting the road with the family and exploring new interesting places. I am not only talking about the human members of your family. Taking your dog along for
the adventure can be very exciting for him as well. It seems everytime I open my car door my best 4 legged friend becomes excited and eager hoping that I will invite him along for a ride.

If you are indeed planning to take your furry friend along on a road trip, it is important that you take certain steps to keep your pet and your family (even the hairy one) safe.

One of the most overlooked steps you should take is to fasten your dog up in a seat belt!
if you have an accident you don't want your dog flying through the windshield. Go to your local peal shop and find a comfortable seat belt that will keep him seated while you are on the road. He may not be happy with the restraint, but it will keep him safe, and that is the goal we want to achieve here.

Another mistake people seem to make all too often, is locking their dog inside a hot car, especially when it comes to inexperienced pet owners. Dogs are no different then people when it comes to getting overheated. If you must leave the dog inside the car for an extended period, atleast roll the windows open. Another thing you should avoid is leaving them in the back of your truck. If you have a cute canine like mine there is a chance that when you return to your truck and he will be gone. This could ruin the fun of your entire trip, and you will be missing your best friend. Protect your dog the same way you would a child and it will make the road trip much safer.

Last but not least make sure you dint forget to bring all of your doggy road trip needs along with you. Your dog may never forgive you if you do not bring along his favorite snacks and food. You might want to bring along a hairbrush as well. Chance are your dog will find ways to get dirty while you are on the trip and the brush will allow you to get the dirt off, so it will not be all over you and your vehicle. You will also want to bring along a leash so that you will be able to walk him when nature calls him.
