Home Based Business Ideas

When someone gets the notion to look at home based online business ideas, they are usually not prepared for the sheer magnitude of advertised opportunities, 'secret' methods, and hard-sell come ons from companies and programs. There are millions of different home based online business
ideas each urging you to sign up and make money.

The first thing to realize about home based online business ideas is that there are really only two ways to make money: sell products or sell services. If there is nothing being sold in a home based business idea, chances are it is either an illegal pyramid scheme or simply unsupportable in the long term. Stay away from them!

In the realm of product sales, there are many options for home based businesses. Ebay and other online auctions provide a ready-made venue for sales of all sorts of items. If you wish to escape the profit-eating fees and take over your own marketing, ecommerce websites may be a great choice for you. These can be either free, premade options such as Ecrater, or personally-designed websites with ecommerce shopping cart scripts installed. Products can also be sold through online classified sites such as Craigslist.

While many home based online business owners start out by selling items they have at home, that source quickly dries up. Additional products must be purchased for resale. You can do this by visiting yard sales and thrift shops, or dealing with new merchandise from wholesalers. Some make and market their own craft products as well.

One of the most popular types of product for online business ideas is information. This type of virtual product can take the form of teleseminars, reports, or ebooks. Purchase an information product with resale rights or create your own and market it.

If you do not want to deal with products, even virtual ones, consider starting a home based online business selling a service. Marketable skills such as website design, coding, or freelance writing skills make it easy to profit online, as other home based business owners need these things to build their own businesses.

Good article. Starting a business can be difficult. I think the best bet is to complement the sales with services. In these tough economic times, sales are not easy.

I am looking into a medical transcription company online. I have reservations, since I have to purchase their software, valued at approximately $500.00 as well as purchasing a foot petal, valued at $110.00. After I'm trained, I can start making money non-stop. I am considering it but I fear that the company could go under and I am stuck with $610.00 worth of their software and equipment. It sounds too good to be true. Any ideas? The company is "Transam Associates" and it is located at https://www.transamassociates.com.

Interesting and well put. What works for me is simply selling my books on and off line. I also show others how to do this via my websites and articles, not articles from other sites though because I need to let others know which program and software I use and some of my links are affiliate ones, but I only recommend products I use myself and are the cheapest and or the best, I also give out links to free stuff to hep other authors. I am still waiting to find out if I am personally going to be banned from AC for trying to help others and putting an affiliate link in a couple of my articles, daft, but time will tell, my articles now go out on viral rebrandable eBooks, then people can insert their own affiliate links in place of mine and get what they want without me making anything out of anyone, greed is not in my nature, good thing to, I like being me, lol, have fun, I haven't forgot you or anyone else I made friends with on AC. :-) Still reading and voting up your articles althou

Great article. I have been thinking about this but haven't yet found what I would want to do enough to start my own business.

Some people also do good with customer service from home. It didn't work out for me, but has for others I know.
