How to Keep up with a Busy Life and Feed the Kids Well!
10)Build a repertoire of 20 or so, do in a flash recipes. I have trained myself to be able to arrive home at 7-8pm with groceries and have a hot, tasty meal served in 15-20 minutes.
11)Try to begin evening activities only after 6pm when children come directly home from school. If you are out after school, try to be home by 7pm. Children under 10 should not be out later than 8pm. An exception once a month or so, is not a problem, but should not be a habit.
12) If you need to go to a fast food restaurant, the best choices are:
Subway: 6 subs under seven grams of fat; choose cucumbers, spinach, lettuce, mushrooms, fresh green peppers, tomatoes, and vinegar and oil instead of mayonnaise
Taco Bell: 7 layer burrito (vegetarian) $1.69, nachos (meat, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes) $1.49 (avoid the cheese spread; choose fresh cheese)
Arbys : Market Fresh selections
MacDonalds: Chicken Caesar salad ( you can add your own dressings) Asian chicken salad. And choose:
milk water. This is the best remedy for a good digestion. Avoid the soda craze. Its basically toxic!! Especially diet soda. a wrap instead of a bun a salad entree
Snacks for the car:
peanut butter dip (half plain yogurt and half peanut butter) carrots, celery, cukes, apple wedges, pretzels, crackers, bread sticks
salsa (in individual cups with lids) with pretzels, baked corn chips, cukes, celery, crackers
cheese whiz with crackers, cukes, celery, apples
ranch dressing in cups with: sliced mushrooms, cukes, celery, carrots, pepper spears, broccoli, cauliflower,
PBJ pockets: make sandwiches and use the press and seal tool to crimp edges and cut out circles.
roll-ups: spread low-fat cream cheese, plain yogurt on a tortilla shell, layer, deli meat, cheese and romaine lettuce. Roll the tortilla up; slice through at half inch intervals to make pinwheels. Seal with a toothpick.
Trail mix: peanuts, Cheerios, Chex, pretzels, raisins, M&Ms
Protein Bars-pricey but so good for you and yummy too
It takes a little effort, but it will pay off!
