The Screened in Porches VS. Sun Rooms Debate: Which is Best?

If you want to listen to a spirited debate tune in to a debate between two home owners discussing which is best, a screened in porch or a sunroom. There are pros and cons to both and that is what we will review in this article. Proponents of screened in porches will point out the fact
that they can sit on their porch, safe from insect bites and still feel like they are in the out of doors. The proud sun room owner knows he can always open a few windows, which also have screens on the outside and have the same benefits as the screened porch. The screened in porch owner will point out they can cook outdoors while on the porch without worry of bar-b-que smells and smoke entering the home. The sunroom owner would have to admit that they don't generally do their outdoor cooking in their sun room.

On the other hand the sunroom owner will proudly point to tropical plants that have survived the coldest winters because of the availability of the sun room to keep them safe from freezing while still providing the light they need to thrive. Score one for the sun room.

The screened porch owner will point out they can always modify their porch to accept glass panels in winter and have the best of both worlds. At hearing this the sunroom owner declares the porch owner has agreed then that the sunroom is best.

The porch owner will point out that his porch even with the best screens possible cost more than 50% less than the sun room cost the other homeowner. To this the sunroom advocate will claim that is only because the porch owner just raised a frame and open A frame roof over his old outdoor decking to get away from the mosquito hordes in the area.

The sunroom owner will rightfully claim that a sunroom increases the value of his home more than a screened in porch does and actually counts as one of the rooms in the home. The porch owner cannot claim his porch, regardless of how fine he has made up the area as a room in the home.

The porch proponent will push the fact that dinners out on the screened porch are much nicer than eating inside in the house. But the sunroom salesman will tell you nothing starts the day better than a nice breakfast in a sunny warm sunroom in the morning.
