The nature of the human being is to accept most things that are current technology, technological advances, theories, and explanations. Humans for the most part dismiss the archaic notions, rituals, and general abilities of our ancestors. We are here and now therefore what we are doing is right and better.

However, not everyone may believe this. In fact, I know not everyone believes this because I fall into the category of not believing this view. The fact of the matter is there are many things past civilizations have observed, recorded and accomplished that we have yet to figure out. This says point blank that humans today are not necessarily smarter and more observant than our ancestors. The only thing that makes us better than our ancestors are the tools we have.

At this point you are wondering, what does this have to do with Apocalypto? Simple, Mel Gibson leans toward the fundamentalist Christian side of things. Often, fundamentalist Christians are looking for and trying to predict the Rapture. Christianity in particular has been overly interested in eschatology. (Eschatology is the study of the end of the world, final destiny or ascension of humanity.) Okay, what do Christianity, Mel Gibson, eschatology and the Mayan’s have in common? We know Mel Gibson is Christian. We know that Christians are concerned with Rapture (eschatology). But here is what most people don’t know about the Mayan civilization:
