2008 Baltimore Ravens Ravens
The 2007 Baltimore Ravens record was 5-11 last year, I suspect some improvements will be seen this year. The Ravens have traditionally been offensively challenged, this year is no exception. At quarterback there is log jam. You could make an argument
for any of the three quarterbacks starting in Kyle Boller, Troy Smith and Joe Flacco. My guess is Troy Smith, who I actually believe will be a significant upgrade over last season. The Ravens always seem to be looking for a quarterback.
Running back is another position in which I'm not sure who will start. The choices are both real good. Willis McGahee and Ray Rice. Even though McGahee gained over 1,200 yards last season, i actually believe Rice is better.
The receivers do not scare you at all. The starters will be Derrick Mason and Demetrius Williams. Neither one of them is a threat down the field. Mason is an excellent possession receiver. Todd Heap is a truly awesome tight end.
The offensive line starters will be: Adam Terry, Jason Brown, Chris Chester, Ben Grubbs, and Marshall Yanda. This is one of the biggest offensive lines in the league and i think they will end the year as one of the top 5 lines in the league.
The Ravens have always hung their hat on the defense and this years version is no different. The defensive line is truly huge and excellent to boot. The starters will be: Trevor Pryce, Kelly Gregg, and Haloti Ngata. They are all very stout against the run, while still offering a very good pass rush.
The linebackers are very good. The starters are: Terrel Suggs, Ray Lewis, Bart Scott, and Jarrett Johnson. They are very efficient but not quite as explosive as they once were. There is still no one in the league more fun to watch than Ray Lewis against the run. He is probably the best leader on any defense in the league.
The secondary is also very much above average with Samari Rolle and Chris McAllister at the cornerback spots, and Ed Reed and Dawon Landry at safety. All 4 are capable of being in the Pro Bowl.
Special teams are also above average. Matt Stovers is a solid place kicker, Sam Koch a fine punter, Yamon Figurs should be a very explosive return man.
