When it comes to air bags most people only need to know that they are installed and that they work. Many are now too concerned with how they work. But when it comes to your safety, more people really should take an interest into how things are made and how they work.

The air bag is actually a part of an inflatable restraint system. The air bag itself is made to supplement the protection that a person is provided by the seat belts. This does not mean that you should totally disregard the seat belt just because you have air bags in your car. A basic air bag system contains an air bag module, crash sensors, diagnostic monitoring until, steering wheel connection coil, and an indicator lamp. If one of these items fails to function properly then your air bag may fail to deploy properly if you were ever involved in an accident. Of course these items are also connection by a wiring system that is bowered by your cars battery. Even if the battery is disconnected the air bag can still deploy, since most have a reserve system.

For some that can seem very complicated and confusing, but if you know how something works then you will understand when your mechanic tells you that it needs to be fixed. Lets be honest most of us never really know what the auto mechanic is talking about when we go to get our vehicle serviced. We just hope that we are not getting ripped off. To ensure hat this does not happen, and that items such as your air bags are fixed properly, it pays to educate yourself. It will also help to give you the piece of mind that you and your family are safe and secure while riding in your vehicle. The bottom line when it comes to air bags is that they save your life, as long as they function properly. So keep that in mind the next time you take your car to be serviced.
