How to Eliminate Credit Card Debt

It won't be easy to eliminate your credit card debt, there is no quick fix. Besides paying lump sums all at once you will have to make steady payments over time to pay them off. If you deal with your credit card debt you will insure that you will have a brighter and better financial
 future.

Stop incurring new charges. Close the accounts to new charges. Maybe keep one with a lower balance and a lower interest rate open for dire emergencies only. If you don't have the cash, don't buy it.

Avoid store card offers. How many times have you been offered a discount if you sign up for a store's credit card? Store cards have very high interest rates. If you owe on a store card pay it off first. Look at all your card's interest rates, pay off the highest ones first.

Get a better interest rate. Call your credit card company and see if they are willing to lower your interest rate. Tell them that you get offers from other companies everyday for better interest rates. Consider transferring your balance to a lower card. Make sure you read and understand the terms and conditions of these offers, sometimes they are only good for a limited term.

Always pay more than the minimum due. If you only pay the minimum payment it will take literally years and years to pay off your debt. You can start one month paying the minimum but as you pay off your card your minimum will drop but if you keep your payment at the higher amount you will pay off your cards faster.

Avoid late fees by paying on time. Many credit card companies let you pay online with a debt card. Just make sure to give yourself enough time for your payment to clear. Sometimes it can take from 24 to 48 hours for it to post to your credit card account.

If you cannot afford the minimum payment due call your credit card company to make arrangements with them. Credit card companies rather you contact them then just try to avoid them all together.

As you pay off your cards make sure that you close the account and destroy the cards. If you leave a card open that is paid off it can adversely affect your credit score. This is because part of your credit score is calculated by how much credit you have available to you.
