I am an avid reader who has not been able to get in nearly as many hours of reading this past year, as I would have liked too. I still had no problem pulling together a list of what I deemed the top 10 best books of this past year, 2006, though. The genres cross the line from fictional, to coffee table historical editions, to children's books, representing the eclectic style of my reading. Read on for a list of books that nearly everyone is sure to be able to pick a title from to either read or at least agree with me that it is deserving of making such a list.

1 - Brother Odd, by Dean Koontz

If you are a fan of Dean Koontz or looking for a story that is a bit different from the average tale, this third installment in Dean Koontz's books about a strikingly different sort of young man by the name of Odd (following Odd Thomas, and Forever Odd) is a must read. Odd sees the dead, including his ever-present companion the King himself, Elvis, and that is the most normal thing about the book you will soon discover.

2 - U2 by U2

This book is necessary for any U2 fan to own. It is a compilation of memorabilia, historical information, lyrics, photos, and much more, all sanctioned by the members of the band themselves.

3 - Walter the Farting Dog Goes on a Cruise, by William Kotzwinkle, Glenn Murray, Elizabeth Gundy

If you buy one illustrated book from this past year, make it this one. Supposedly for children, it will lust as easily leave all the adults who read it with a smile on their face too!

4 - Pirateology: The Pirate Hunter's Companion

From its lavishly decorated cover, through its 32 pages, here is another book that while meant for kids, aged 9 through 12 in this instance, if you have found yourself a part of the current pirate craze sweeping the populous, then this title is a must for your bookshelf.

5 - A Million Little Pieces, by James Frey
