Humans are for the most part honest individuals. But our DNA apparently makes us spit out “little white” lies. I guess at the end of the day a lie is a lie. But even the most innocent of lies can make getting to the heart of the mater upsetting, not to mention time-consuming.
According to a recent study by Science News (www.sciencenews.org) whether it’s your child or your significant other, telling a lie is largely individual. There is no one tell-tale sign that shows a person is telling a lie. But a few common bonds between liars do exist -- at least some of the time:

1) The Eyes Have it: The rule of thumb has always been - if a person looks away while thinking of something important that’s one thing. If they look away while answering something that is relatively easy (i.e “where were you last night?”) it might be cause for wonder. Experts say the subject matter is critical. According to xxxx, if people are lieing about something shameful they’ll have difficulty maintaining eye gaze.

2) Body Language: detecting a lie would be easy if our noses really did grow like Pinocchio. However, the total body package can be a dead giveaway. Changes in small hand movements, gestures, shrugs - anything that is inconsistent with what’s being said is probably worth homing in on.

3) Emotional Fallout: often called micro-expressions-- these little flits of emotion often expose exactly what a person is thinking. For examples, there are smiles of enjoyment which involve not only the muscles around the mouth but of the eyes and ther are masking smiles which cover fear or sadness. It takes a god observer to detect which is which.

4) It’s All About Me: When someone is telling a lie they tend to use fewer first-person pronouns -- words like I, me, mine -- then an individual who is telling the truth. Experts say liars tend to try and put some distance between the message they’re promoting.
