Product Review: SteamTek Steam Mop

I'm not sure as to who would admit to watching infomercials, but there does come a time when there is absolutely nothing on the television to view. Sometimes you might be surfing through the channels and an infomercial catches your eye, with their exuberance and excitement over
 demonstrating a product.

I've never been one to actually call in to purchase any item demonstrated on an infomercial. Although some do look as though they might legitimately be useful, I've just never really found myself "needing" anymore products around my house, other than what I already have.

However, while perusing a store flyer the other day, I happened to notice an item in a local department store, that I had previously seen on one of those saturday afternoon infomercials (when nothing else was on TV). It was the "SteamTek" sanitizing steam mop. What really caught my eye was that the price was much cheaper than what they had advertised on the infomercial. This made the product just a little more interesting to me.

I also noticed that yet another department store was advertising a similar product, although at a higher price. It occurred to me, that with two similar products (that being, another company duplicating the idea, but with a different twist), that it might have some merit in its capabilities. Of course, I might not have given this a second thought had I not seen the other, more expensive model as well.

As with many homes, I have carpet. Unfortunately, carpet isn't always easy to keep clean, especially with children, constant traffic and pets. I reduced the amount of carpet I have in my home for that very reason and exchanged it with laminate flooring, knowing that would be so much easier to keep clean. However, I do still have carpet in my living room.

This mop was working like a charm for me up until the last time I used it. For some reason it made a funny noise when I clicked it on for steam and then once the steam came it worked fine. However; the LED light turned red 1/2 way through cleaning and didn't turn green again. I unplugged it for awhile and then tried again but it turns red after a few swipes. The steam still comes out but I don't know if I should worry about the LED light or not.

You can use a mixture of water and vinegar to remove the white patch. This is probably just calcium build up from the steam

When I first got this mop I didn't think it would ever work right. Then I left it plugged in and clicked on for 20 minutes, it worked great after that and no longer needs to warm up for such a long time.

I have owned my steamtek for about 3 months now and I love it. I have laminate flooring and use it everyday. I love how it leaves no streaks when it dries and how fast it dries which is great for me because I have 3 pugs so I send them out on the deck for 10 minutes and I can have our whole floor done 1500sq ft. The best product I have used so far and I have tried almost everything. I have not had any issues with the steam coming out but I did get forgetfull one day and left it sitting on the floor a minute and came back and it burned a patch in the laminate in the bedroom. A nice white patch. So if anyone knows how to fix that problem please let me know. Other than that issue which was my own fault I still love the product. I highly recommend it.

I was having a problem with my SteamTek. At first I wasn't getting any steam, and it was making a loud noise. I unplugged checked everything plugged it back in and it started steaming. It was doing a great job, then the steam stopped. I found the only way I could get the steam to continue was to lower the handle and apply some pressure. This helped the mop function better but killed my back. I'm returning my SteamTek mop tomorrow. I hope I just got a lemon because it was doing a good job and it was great in the corners and around things.

In reply to those who are having problems with their "Steam mop".... I've only used mine a couple of times, so I'm hoping it will last through a few more uses. About all I can say is "re-read" the directions that came with the steam cleaner.... be sure that you are using it correctly. If you are using it on carpet, be sure that the plastic triangle is placed over the cleaning cloth... if using it on bare floors, you do not need the plastic triangle. If it's still not working, hopefully you kept the receipt. You may have gotten a lemon out of the bunch and it might have to be taken back to the store.

I have the same problem. The steam mop does not seem to steam. What do I need to do to fix this problem?

i just got the same mop but i can't seem to get it to work! is there anything special you have to do besides what the directions say (fill it with water, plug it in, and push the button)?
