Does Jenny Craig Work?

I hate to admit that my family was obsessed with the way they thought people should look. I think they were worst when it came to people in their family. The traits of my mom's brothers and sisters formed my mom's opinion and mine. I think that my mom and I have tried almost ever
diet plan out there and Jenny Craig was one of them.

When I first started Jenny Craig, they had only been in business for a couple of years. They had barely produced their teen program and I think at times I was a guinea pig to see if it was a success or not.

What is Jenny Craig?

Jenny Craig was a weight loss and health program that consists of a one on one meeting, planned and prepared food and a weekly health and weight loss class. Jenny Craig has grown to be in the top five companies that offer a weight loss and health program.

Jenny Craig now offers not only in office visits but a client can also have meetings over the telephone, weigh in at the comfort of their home and have your menu items delivered to you every two week.

Jenny Craig has jumped on the weigh loss and health bandwagon when it comes to online service and education. Clients of Jenny Craig can now order their products, look for healthy recipes, and be part of a community online.

Cost Of Jenny Craig?

When I was attending meetings, the average price for a week of food was about $150. If their current sample packs are any reference to the cost of food. I would say that their food prices haven't changed. Currently Jenny Craig is running an offer of $6 per week. Now this is $3 dollars lower than their major competition, so it may be a good bargain.

For me personally it was the fact that you had to eat their food that nerved me. What where they trying to teach you, to live off of boxed and canned food that was suppose to be good for your health and waist line? It's easy to figure out that you could be spending hundreds of dollars or more simply on food.

I was poisoned by Jenny Craig Peanut Butter Anytime bars! The worst part is that my local center (clackamas, OR) knew that the bars had been sold to their customers and all they did was put a little flyer on their desk, NO PHONE CALL! I could have died! Jenny Craig doesn't care about you, or your health!!!!!

I have been on Jenny Craig for 5 months. I have lost 18 pounds but it has been slow. The food overall is pretty good but is really expensive as other has said. Lately, I have been having some problems that I am going to the MD to check and see if I have developed problems with my thyroid being low. Excessively exhausted and more forgetful. If that is the case I am stopping Jenny Craig. Going on thyroid supplements for the rest of your life would not be an option I want. Reading this info, I wonder if there is some real correlation between thyroid problems and Jenny Craig.

Jenny craig does work if you follow the plan. Yes you loose the weight but it is nearly impossible to duplicate the food afterwards using your own food. Jenny uses A LOT of soy and sugar substitutes that for the most part are not a part of everyday diets. This makes it difficult to make your own meal and Jenny Craig counts on this. They say it is to teach portion control, which is true, but almost all of their protein comes from Soy. Also, I was particularily interested in the posting about how some women ended up with a Thyroid problem after using Jenny Craig. Soy Isoflavins which are used at mass in JC foods are a cause of hypothyroidism in women with a propensity for autoimmune disease. It also reduces the absorption of levothyroxin (synthroid) and other hypothyroid medications (see the FDA websites) in existing hypothyroid patients. Be careful with the soy products and select JC foods that have less Soy in them.

I started Jenny Craig two weeks ago and find the food very tasty. I have lost about 3 pounds so far. I do go to the gym and sweat my butt off. Its a great program if you have the $$$ for the food. I had to quit the program, because my credit card was rising back up . I couldn't afford the $111 a week. So what I'm doing is preparing the meals myself and its working. Girls, we have to be creative today and get to the gym. Before joining a gym, check the newspapers, people are always selling their memberships. I pay $25 a year for a lifetime membership at a gym; I bought the membership for $400. Nice, huh.

i know this is an old discussion but i am concerned when someone said 1000 calories would make you lose weight faster; this is NOT true! it puts your body in a starvation mode that is unhealthy. you NEVER want to go below 1200 calories... i tried jenny craig and i lost tons of weight and kept it off even after i quit; i only gained it back due to thyroid issues and health issues. it's taken me awhile to turn my eating habits around again but i'm getting there. if you don't want to think about what you're eating because your day is so busy jenny craig is not a bad place to start but be forewarned; the food is super expensive. good luck out there!

I am a Jenny Craig Member and I can't help but laugh at some of the comments posted on this site. Jenny Craig isn't a miracle diet nor does it ever state that you will never gain weight after the program. It teaches you to be more in controll of what and how you eat. Just like any diet out there you have to exercise as well. Food put the weight on it's up to you to take it off!

Jenny Craig works if you follow it exactly, and you have to exercise. The problem is they want you to buy more food so give the 1200 calorie diet. This also makes you lose weight very slowly when a 1000 calorie per day diet would speed things up for those of us that have to lose less than 20lbs. During maintainence, they want you to exercise an hour a day! If I had time for that, I wouldn't need to diet! Also, if you cheat at all, you generally will not lose weight. It has the potential to be a good program, but is too much about the $$$$. I tried to buy my own breakfasts and they threatened not to give me a discount next time.
