Prepared to begin her senior year at Louisiana State University after returning from her 2008 Summer Olympic performance in Beijing, China, Nickiesha Wilson made an announcement that surprised the LSU community. Wilson recently competed as a part of the track and field team for Jamaica, representing her native country during the 2008 Olympics. Wilson competes in both the 100m and 400m hurdles, but only qualified for the 400m for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Wilson qualified for the second round of the 400 meter with the 10th best time of 55.75 seconds. She did not reach the final round for medal contention.
Wilson has been the "superstar" of the LSU women's track and field team for the past two seasons and excels in hurdles. She trains under the Head Coach of Track and Field at LSU, Dennis Shaver, and plans to continue training under him for the immediate future.
Wilson's accomplishments during her tenure on the LSU Track and Field Team include NCAA Championship title in 400 meter hurdles at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Field and Track Championships and runner up in the 100 meter hurdles held in June of this year. Her efforts helped the team win its 25th team championship title in school history. In addition to being a NCAA Champion, Wilson also owns titles as a 5-time All American, NCAA Mideast Regional Champion, SEC Champion, and 3-time All SEC. She is also the record holder at LSU in the 400 meter hurdles clocking 53.97 seconds, her current personal best. In the 100 meter hurdles, Wilson is ranked 6th with 12.85 seconds, also her personal best.
