Have We Forgotten What Christmas Means?

We all know about the birth of Christ, and the religious aspect of the Christmas season. But have we all gotten that selfish, and that caught up in the gift buying rat race. I hear kids telling their parents, give me, give me, I want, I want. The parents do not give it a second thought. They get them what they want. I am sure everyone has seen or heard about the price on the new Gaming System. People running over each other in the stores trying to get one. WOW, I was so glad to see the Cabbage Patch phase go, and now this!
I am not super mom, nor am I looking for a pat on the back. But, I feel that gifts of that stature should be earned and not just given because it's Christmas. Some Parent's use it as a bribe to try and keep their kids in line and behaving.
What we need to remember is that Christmas is more about caring and sharing and being with the ones you love. My family and I celebrate with each other every year on the Sunday before Christmas. We all live in different States and don't see each other often enough through the year. This is a very special time for us.
If we choose to exchange gifts, it's something homemade, it's something with thought and from the heart.
I am sure that everyone out there has a special, and different relationsship with each one of their brothers and sister's. We are all good cook's, baker's and very artistic. It's really heart warming to see the look on their face when you know you have just given someone something they will treasure.
When my kids hear their friends talking about what they want for Christmas. and are asked what they want, My kids tell them, " We don't need gifts to know we are loved ". I never knew my kids thought that until I had a couple parents call me and tell me what level headed and respectful children I have. They want to know what I did to make them that way. My response to that is, " They made themselves that way ". I am Thankful everyday for my Family. Never go one day in your life without telling them you love them. Give them a hug every chance you get, make sure they know honest mistakes are okay, we all make them. Then they will not be afraid to tell you anything.
