Well, the Rules Are Changing.
...in the NFL. Yeah we all know that there are really dumb rules in sports, right. Even as stupid as tossing a coin is, there is a good side to it. There is even more incentive for the team who wins the toss.
I think that they should change the coin toss to a fifty yard dash. They should make the star QB on each team stand back to back at the fifty yard line. Then at the blow of a whistle they dash to the end zone and whoever wins, gets the ball first. At least the deciding factor would include some sort of endurance.
Okay back to the incentives that are coming forth. First of all, they will be able to wait til the second half to retain the ball (like in college football) if they so desire. The coin toss deferral will begin at the opening game on Thursday, September 4, when the Redskins take on the Giants.
Some defensive players will be able to wear a radio in his helmet so that the coaches can relay defensive strategy signals to them.
Oh boy, there will be a lot of mask penalties now for sure. Well there would've been but since they are eliminating the five yard penalty for incidental face masks, the refs had better be on the look out even more so now. Make sure that they are secure because it can get messy. They will only enforce the 15 yard penalty for grabbing and twisting a mask. Kinda hard to draw the line now.
Just grab it, don't twist... 7 1/2 yard penalty???
The force out rule... history! Now a receiver must land with both feet in bounds. It doesn't matter if he is tagged in mid air or not. This is sure to be a tight one. They feel that would be a more consistent play to be able to make a complete pass when both feet are on the ground, anyway. Since there is already so much controversy with this play now as it is, they decided to change this rule.
A play made by the Browns changed another rule. It is an extended instant replay to cover field goal and extra points and illegal forward hand offs. Cleveland bounced the ball off an upright, then off the support that is behind the crossbar. At first it was no good because they thought that it may have hit the crossbar. The Browns won in overtime.
Muffed snaps?? They are in now if they are not touched.
