We all want our children to feel their best. When kids are sick they miss school and can't function at their best. Here are some helpful things you can do for your kids when they are home sick.

1. Chicken noodle soup: This has to be #1 on the list. Generations and generations of parents have realized the healing properties in chicken soup and have given it to their children. Not only will it help your children get better faster, but it is easy on their throats and gentle on their tummies. Chicken soup is perfect for just about any illness your child may be suffering from.

2. Set up an area for rest: In my house I pull out the couch in to a bed and set out plenty of blankets and pillows so my daughter can relax. I can put her favorite stuffed animals and books beside her so she doesn't have to get up. Proper rest is important for your child's body to fight the source of the infection. Setting them up for rest is a great way to encourage them to let their bodies heal.

3. Put sweats, pajamas, or whatever clothes you have that would be the most comfortable for your child on them: You can get to sleep faster when you are in non-confining clothes. The more sleep your children get the quicker their bodies can recover.

4. Make your child a get well card: It shows them that you care, and will most likely bring a smile to their face. These are the memories your kids will have when they become adults.

5. Pick up proper medication: If your child has a headache pick up some Advil (it works faster than Tylenol). If they have a stuffy nose, get some Vicks vapor Rub. The menthol helps to open nasal passages. Sore throats require Cloraseptic throat spray or lozenges. Coughs need a suppressant or cough drops for minor coughs. There is no need for your child to suffer when they are feeling bad. We are lucky to have these items at our disposal.
