While he was a student at John Hopkins, he worked as a reporter for Newsweek magazine and a freelance writer for the Washington Post and Baltimore Sun, as well as a medical editor and producer for Lifetime Medical Television in New York and Los Angeles. He did his psychiatry residency at Tufts/New England Medical Center hospitals and continued to write.
After his residency, he served as medical director of the Tri-City Mental Health Centers and then went on to become medical director of Heritage Health Systems, a state-wide spectrum of medical, psychiatric and addiction facilities. He also wrote many non-fiction books during this time, including How to Cope with Depression, Medical School: Getting in, Staying in, Staying Human, also To Wrestle With Demons: A Psychiatrist Struggles to Understand his Patients and Himself, The Strange Case of Dr. Kappler: The Doctor who became a Killer, and Without Mercy: The Shocking True Story of a Doctor who Murdered. He appeared on such shows as " The Oprah Winfrey Show," " Good Morning America," " The Tyra Banks Show," CNN's " Nancy Grace" and Court TV's " Catherine Crier Live." Keith has also served as an expert witness in some of America's most highly publicized trails.
Today, Ablow is busier than ever. His USA Today Bestselling psychiatric thrillers featuring Dr. Frank Clevenger include Denial, Projection, Compulsion, Psychopath, Murder Suicide and The Architect. His true crime book, Inside the Mind of Scott Peterson, hit the National Bestseller list this year. Dr. Ablow is now at work on a self-help book that will make his healing philosophy and techniques available to everyone, everywhere. Dr. Ablow now brings his personal and professional experiences to a daytime talk show called The Dr. Keith Ablow Show, which he is the host and executive producer.
