Dance is an important form of entertainment. I have always seen dance just as entertainment as a matter of fact. But dance is a subject; it's one of importance and depth. The two shows I observed were known as Art of the Solo and Camp 4. The Art of the Solo performance was a Baltimore museum performance. Its company is not inferred. The other dance known as Camp 4 was a Towson University production. The Art of the Solo was a professional dance while the Camp 4 dance was an academic one. Both of the dances I observed were modern. The following people were involved in the production of the art of the solo: The artistic director was Mino Nicolas. The choreographers were Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn, Doris Humprey, Pola Nirenska, Mary Wigman, Eleanor King, Sophie Maslow, Anna Sokolow, Jose Limon and Isadora Duncan. The composers were Harvey Washington Loomis, Erik Satie, Mcnair Ilgenfritz, Mario Tarenghi, Johann Sebastian Bach, William Goetze, Woody Guthrie, Nikolai Medtner, Priaulx Rainier and Pyotr Ilich Tchaikovsky. The custom designers were Adolphine Rott, Ted Shawn, Pearl Wheeler, Mary Wigman, Eleanor King, Edythe Gilfond, Mino Nicolas, Pauline Lawrence, Helen Kulik. The light designer was Mino Nicolas. The following people were involved in the Camp 4 dance: The artistic director was Vincent Thomas. The Choreographers were Kelli Thompson, Kristin Porter, Nicole D. Martin, Caroline Rodgers. The composers were Cirque du Solei, Sarah McLachlan, Destiny's Child, Caroline Rogers, Mya Hardy. The production and lighting coordinator was Heather Sorensen. The others information on the people involved in this dance was not given; it was not specified on the flyer. I will be using my analysis and my observations of the two dances, Art of the Solo and Camp 4, to differentiate an artistic and theatrical dance. I will also be comparing the similarities of a professional performance to an academic performance according to my experience.
