Burning from Inside

Rating: 3.0 of 5
By Remus Giger, published Nov 06, 2007
This track taken from the Canterbury Sessions is another originally inspired by an old folk song. The track was built on a 'one-take' acoustic performance by Giger, Laning (who turns in a haunting backing vocal in the chorus) and Devine. Despite is flaws the musicians felt they had captured something special in the performance so it was left as it was recorded.

Thanks for the comment Guess. The original performance was just guitar, congas, bass with vocals and sounded much more melancholy, I like the idea of the power of the lament. The song is constructed around a repeating phrase inspired by an old folk song and constructed like a folk 'round'. I have to say, the haunting feeling of the song goes to a singularly superb backing vocal by my good friend Tammo Laning. I tip my hat to him. RG
