Civil Society Asserts Pressure

Nobel Laureate Wangari Maathai speaks after police lobed tear gas canisters to disperse members of the civil society. They were protesting against the formation of a bloated cabinet which they say will force tax payers to cough more money to maintain it. The government in a power sharing agreement with the Orange Democratic Movement are meant to share cabinet posts on a 50-50 basis. The government has proposed a cabinet of 44 while the ODM wants a much leaner outfit of 34.
