Purple Mushroom Photos: Cortinarius Violaceus

During a recent hike in Hendersonville, NC, I stumbled upon about two dozen purple mushrooms growing in dense shade at the very end of the summer season. It turns out that these mushrooms are Cortinarius violaceus.

i've never seen purple mushrooms before- I wonder if they are edible?
