Since Stargate SG-1 finished after running for ten long seasons, the franchise has been left in the capable hands of Stargate Atlantis. The show since SG-1 finished has developed into it's own and is indeed quite different.
The Sci-Fi Channel will kick off the fourth season of Stargate Atlantis on September 28th. The popular SG-1 spin-off has many changes in store for it's fans in the new season.
