Estelle Getty, best known for her award winning role as Sophia in the 80s sitcom, "The Golden Girls", died yesterday, surrounded by family and friends at her home on Hollywood Boulevard. She was 84.

She gained fame as the sharp-tongued mother, Sophia Petrillo, to Bea Arthur's character "Dorothy" on the Golden Girls. It was reported that Estelle Getty suffered from advanced Lewy body dementia before passing.
