American Gangster is Ridley Scott's contribution to the genre of the New York Dope Epic, of which it contains many of the clichés. This is no less the case just because American Gangster is based on a true story.

"They hate you! You represent progress and that my friend is why you are going to jail!" This line delivers a very bone chilling message of how far we still have to go as a human race to eliminate institutional racism.

I didn't see any of the Oscar-nominated Best Mvoies in the theatres, so this past week off from school was a mad catch-up via DVD. Though not nominated for Best Picture, American Gangster was one that I somewhat enjoyed.
