I am married w/ 3 children. I am a medical assistant and am hoping to earn my nursing degree and then become a nurse practitioner and a certified nurse midwife. I have 2 daughters and one son (ages 6, 3, and 5 mos).

There are a variety of programs in California that can help new parents of a child with a disability. This article shows those parents where they can start looking for help finding and qualifying for those programs.
Anticipating the birth and first months of a child with Down syndrome can be frightening and nerve-wracking. This account of the first 6 months in the life of the author's son is an attempt to put those months in context, showing how 'normal' they can be.
Most obstetrician have outdated notions of what's involved in having a child with Down syndrome-and thus put heavy pressure on expectant mothers to rethink and second-guess their decision to keep a baby diagnosed with Down syndrome.
