Why SimCity Societies is on the top of my wish list.
"Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he hath been approved, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord promised to them that love him." (James 1:12 ASV)
In an age when even the Pope wears designer labels, it is time for Christians to cast aside the molds and standards of the world and remember the God who made us and who loves us just the way we are.
We should remember that God never gives us a calling that He will not personally aide us through.
Trusting in God is often something easier said than done, but it is so crucial if we want to live the lives He has planned for us.
Nothing on this earth is meant to last forever, and the highs we gain from worldly things are matched or exceeded by the lows felt when those things abandon us.
As Christians, it's easy to get caught up in the world around us and forget our purpose. We forget that we are only visitors here on Earth. Our home lies elsewhere.
It's like keeping a tamed tiger in the house. We may get away with it for years, but one day that tiger is going to show it's true nature and someone we love is going to get bitten.
I once saw a bumper sticker that said "Live your life so the pastor doesn't have to lie at your funeral." Truth is, we're all going to leave this earth one day. While the Bible certainly provides a guide for how to live your life, God ultimately leaves it in our hands.
If we can't even love each other, how can we ever hope to reach out to the rest of the world?
Christ died for sinners. He died for murderers, drug dealers, perverts, thieves, liars, prostitutes and criminals. And what's more, He loves them just as much as He loves the rest of us.
We as Christians are called to proclaim His good news to the world around us. Jesus said "What I tell you in the darkness, speak ye in the light; and what ye hear in the ear, proclaim upon the house-tops." (Matthew 10:27 ASV)
Often Christians find themselves shaken at the lack of evidence of God's existence. When they realize they can't produce proof that someone else would accept, some Christians start to doubt.
It stands to reason that either Jesus was in fact the Christ, or He was a liar and a blasphemer.
If we focus on the individual events in our lives, we can see that bad things sometimes happen to good people. We wonder why God allows pain and suffering. We accuse Him of abandoning us when things get rough.
"Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." (Ephesians 6:11 ASV)
"Am I going to Hell because I...?" From the world's standpoint this is a very valid question. Praise God that He doesn't look at such things from the world's standpoint!
It's amazing to me how often I forget to thank God for the good things in my life. I'm always right there, letting Him know about it when things go badly for me, but when everything is going well He hears from me quite a bit less.
Give your worries to God and let Him handle it.
For many of us, the 23rd Psalm is very familiar. It's easy to pass over this Psalm because we feel we already know it. Something I've found though, is that even in the verses we already "know," God has much more to reveal to us if we really take the time to examine them.
The book of Proverbs deals extensively with the concept of wisdom. Much of it was written or collected by Solomon, who was said to have been the wisest man (other than Christ himself) to have lived. Solomon knew the value of God's wisdom and treasured it highly.
Light is integral to the human experience. It guides us, warms us, nourishes us. Clearly we need light to thrive.
"So therefore whosoever he be of you that renounceth not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:33 ASV
The Bible is God's instruction manual for life. It's no thrilling page-turner, but it contains a lot of vital information about how to live. Without it we miss out on a lot of the good things that God has for us and we tend to try to do things the hard way.
Ultimately the Christian life is about Victory.
Memory is a fickle thing. People don't remember things for long, unless they have some way of being reminded.
Almost everyone I know thinks of rain as a bad thing. When it rains people constantly comment on how dreary and depressing the rain is. My co-workers used to cringe and fret as the clouds got darker. Not me though. I love rain.
Lots of people believe that the Bible says if you do good things, you go to Heaven. The Bible says nothing of the sort. In fact, it loudly proclaims the opposite! "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6)
