Grace is just about the biggest word in the Bible. It's impossible to get your arms around it. It's like the Giant Sequoia trees in California. Grace, as we see it in the Bible, is a forest of Sequoia trees.
Taking the time, helped Nehemiah hear God, and learn what God was asking of him, but it also gave time for Nehemiah to assess the damage and know what he really needed to ask for, both from God, and then God, through the king.

When we hear the Gospel preached or taught. Does this teaching stand up when it is held up to the light of Christ? Do we see and hear the real, authentic Jesus being presented in light of the Word?
We are called to come out from the wreck we make of our lives and the world and say, "Lord, I'm coming out and I surrender. I am completely powerless. I acknowledge that resistance is futile, Lord."

Jesus gave his life for you. He left the glories of Heaven to die on a cross. And because of that you have peace and hope and love and forgiveness and ... In Jesus God said "YES" to all the needs of the human race.
Followers of Christ are not exempt from tragedy and tears, but there is a difference between the tears of those who trust God and those who don't. We grieve...but we do not grieve as those who have no hope. We have hope even in the midst of calamity.

No matter what day it is on the calendar or how hectic and bogged down our lives have become -- no matter how badly we have failed or deeply we have transgressed -- there is always the opportunity for a new day and a new beginning with God.

Love does lie down on the job, to love God with all your heart and soul, and love your neighbor, yes even your enemy, as yourself, takes work. Love doesn't just sit there, Love works!
God does want each of us to know that there are times when He restores us in order to demonstrate His hand in our lives. He is the restorer of what the locusts have eaten, no matter why they came into your life.
We like to give the tempter more credit than he deserves. With the armor of Christ, Satan is already defeated. "And How powerful is an enemy, really, that can be stopped cold with the words, "No Thanks, I'm with Jesus?"
God wouldn't take "no" from Jeremiah, Isaiah, Gideon or Moses. He didn't take no from these reluctant prophets, and he persuaded each one of them to become His spokesman, and God doesn't take "no" from us, either.
And as Paul reminded us in the book of Romans, Just because something is not prohibited does not make it lawful, good or even wise.
It is written in Proverbs, knowing the truth just might save you! When Christ returns, He returns victorious.
The Lord offers eternal salvation to the clutter, the messy, the lost. Not the perfect. Not to those who think they have already made it. Not to those who don't need help.
We know of Christ's suffering. A sacrificial suffering beyond our true understanding. But as with Christ, it is with us. There is no glory apart from suffering. There is no crown apart from the cross.
So, are you staying or going? How did Jesus answer? He says "Both!"
If someone asks how much truth the is in the Scripture...One can confidently reply ...."All of It".
Love GOD first! Get your eyes outside yourself, and see the angel of this church saying, Love one another.
Do you understand what Jesus is telling us? He is saying that once we give our lives to Him He will never let us go. NEVER. Does that give you joy?
The disciples would be coming together at the table, for Supper, their Last Supper with Jesus before he is crucified. And important work was to be done to prepare. Before coming to the table there was work to be done. And the disciples did that work.
And finally, LEST WE SHOULD FORGET: This is God's work we do! Not man's work. Whatever good comes of it, it was the work of the Holy Spirit and God's love for us.
The choice is ours, right now. To die in a fantasy world of our own mind's creation, or to live forever in Christ.
Is Christ divided? This is my Christ. That is your Christ. That is his Christ. That is her Christ?
Be patient like the farmers and don't give up, The Lord will soon be here!
And when the votes are cast, and the votes are counted, may we rest in the assurance that whatever the outcome, whether we like the result of not. God is in there, working out his kingdom through all the right people, and all the "wrong people" too.
Seek God's Will. Then seek it again. And then do more seeking.
But just like all of us, Jonah seemed to think that he could outrun or hide from God. He was wrong.
If God honors us by giving a better seat, by letting us move up to a more important place at the table, it is because we put ourselves last.
We may think we can circumvent the will of God so everything turns out our way instead of His way. But it just doesn't work that way.
Without hesitation means RIGHT NOW. Just do it. Get on with it. So be it. Make it snappy. The Lord is speaking in the NOW, expecting a response in the NOW. ASAP is Now.
When we stop the struggle, and release to God, we find God's word to be the most attractive thing in our lives, and we become close to the Word. The Word become close to us. Part of us.
The first chapter of Ruth points us to the kind of friendship and trust and commitment and devotion that God wants from us, expects from us, and offers to us.
He came personally to John's parents. He didn't just post something in the newspaper or write in out in big letters in the sky. He came to them, one on one. He did the same with Abraham and Sarah, and Joseph and Mary, and it seems maybe even Mary's parents.
Have you ever tried really hard to succeed...to do the right thing....do what you are supposed to do...only to get yourself shredded and defeated?

Discernment is the faith and prayer that helps us to be clear about whether though our free will we are going along with God's will or fighting against it.
Proverbs is a collection of sayings, primarily about wisdom. Man's wisdom and God's wisdom. Who's wisdom to do you trust more?
We are not presented with our destinations in life fully squeezed and presented in an ice cold refreshing glass for us to consume.
We are never worthy. But by walking closely with Christ, our faith helps us to do those things that honor him and "Then the name of our Lord Jesus will be honored because of the way you live, and you will be honored along with him. "
In glorious full color, Christ was front page, headline news, in bold print. He wasn't hidden away between the lines of the story. Christ was the story. He wasn't stuck behind the scene. Christ was the scene.
Here you go, Lord, I am so honored you are here. Enjoy ...After all, we were just going to throw those things out.
For 26 days, I wandered softly across the highways of the country...for 2 days I race like a maniac to get back home.
Are you willing to accept that others may have some answers that DIFFER from yours but may be correct?
God spoke through the prophet Isaiah: In the last days, all things would be different. All things would be made right. God and man and man and man would wage peace.
I leaped into the future...into a bleak and dark imagined future where everything went wrong and never got better. True happiness exists in the present moment.
I have a purpose for not dying that day. And a reason for being different.
Is this how it is with us? Will we one day fall to our knees before God and say "If only I'd known, if only I'd known...how much you loved me."
For most of my life, I thought that there were just two outcomes possible for any given task: EXCELLENT and NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

If you think about it, Love is the one thing everyone knows how to do. Love is one of the few things all people knew how to do when they were born.
If we are raised to WORK HARD, BEHAVE OURSELVES, GET A GOOD JOB, ACHIEVE FINANCIAL SECURITY and CHASE YOUR DREAMS, where is the FINISH LINE? When we stop breathing?
Yes, God loves us so much that he sent his son to die so that we don't have to...but he also loves us so much that he showed us death is conquered...so that we knew that we too will live because of God's love.

Argument is a good thing, and a healthy thing. Something that ultimately strengthens our relationships, and shows that we care about those we are with.
A covenant had been made, and God had been faithful. His love was steadfast, and his commitment unbroken. But Israel, like Gomer, went on "vacation", ignored God's love and instead turned to false gods.
Men of Science need not be men without God or a spiritual side.

I'm sure someday, when he's all grown up, we'll sit around the fire and talk about his childhood and all the silly things we did and good times we had....and he'll say "Dad, You wanna hear a Dilbert?" Or at least, I'll wish he did.
Einstein knew that success was possible, but not essential. What was essential is that we are of value, and that we contribute whatever we can of value for the benefit of others.
How about living fully, for God, right here and right now in the present moment?
I think that opinions define the human existence. Opinions differentiate us from slugs and toadstools or rocks.
Arrogance divides churches, hinders relationships, and stifles the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. To overcome arrogance we need God's help.
But I have to remind my self that if we can drop the big bag of self-pity, stop carrying around the past, and stop grasping the future as though we control it. It's not too heavy. We can just let go, and LIVE in present moment.
Because I love the people in my life more than anything...and it's about time, that I had the time, to BE THE VERY BEST at showing them....
They feared change because with change there would be shifts and losses of power and control. If things change ...how can we control the people with the old ways?
It's a difficult job to wear a costume or play a role all the time.
There is no life apart from the Spirit of God. But when humanity turns away from God, life departs.
Over the years, many of you have written in with your thoughts and feelings regarding LOVE WORKS DAILY and about specific essays that I have published.
Courage does not always roar. Sometimes, it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I will try again tomorrow".
You go to church, hear a nice message, but all the days in between you don't have anything specific to do.
There was a lot of faith put into the Titanic, it's captain and crew, and it's passengers on it's maiden voyage. But the only one who remained steadfast in all of it was God.
In a country founded on the right to religious freedom and religious expression, IN GOD WE TRUST is now politically incorrect.
The saddest thing for a shepherd is to stand in his field, calling his sheep by name, and having them not follow. Let us recognize his voice, and hear him call us by name, and follow him.
I've found plenty of hate mongers and fanatics everywhere I've been. Every skin color. Every ethnic background. Every religion. Every walk of life.

Being faithful is not always easy. Often we are called to wait . . . sometimes in silence.
Worry is a very powerful word, but an even more powerful one is ... RELEASE!
I only hope that by then humanity will have learned it's hard lessons and they won't have to rush to school and pick their kids up from school "for no good reason at all" except to just hug them and have them close.

We can hardly imagine how it felt to feel separated from someone you have never been separated from....since the beginning, since before the beginning.
There are a limited number of ways that you can kill. The are infinite number of ways you can love. There are a limited number of ways that you can kill. Do they ever cross over? Do they ever cross over?
If the word had been NO! or BUGGER OFF! (his words not mine) he would have been upset and left. But it said YES!
Way down deep at the root of it, Why did Christ have to suffer and die? Wasn't there another way? And beyond that why does God allow anyone to suffer?
In 2003, Mr. Rogers of the PBS children's show Mr. Rogers Neighborhood passed away. It was a difficult for many people to accept that the man who invited them into his home each day with a happy welcoming smile and a wave was gone.
Being greatest was and is an important thing. Who would be at the right hand, who would be at the left. The right hand was the favored spot. And all the disciples wanted to know. Who would be greatest? Who would get that favored spot?
But I don't think that things just show up BAD? I don't think that things or people are JUST EVIL because that's how they were made. What purpose would it serve God to create things that are DARK and EVIL? For entertainment?
I have remarked to myself that I must have an S.P.A. group that meets close to our store. S.P.A.? Yes, Stupid People Anonymous.
I have often fought with the question - What make a person qualified to preach? Why should I find myself doing it? Who gives me the right?
The person having a panic attack DOES NOT want any attention. As a matter of fact, they will usually do whatever they can to avoid attention.
Do you find yourself ever so isolated by the continual building of cubicles and apartments and fences and departments and sections and chat rooms and denominations designed to keep us apart rather that bring us together?
1 Samuel 16:1-13 1 Now the Lord said to Samuel, "You have mourned long enough for Saul. I have rejected him as king of Israel, so fill your flask with olive oil and go to Bethlehem. Find a man named Jesse who lives there, for I have selected one of his sons to be my king."
So, tell me about your childhood.....
WE are certain to receive it is we have faith like Abraham. Not if we do the things HE did, but because of his unwavering faith, he was, and we are assured to be counted among the righteous.
At the risk of sounding cliché (while using a cliché to introduce my topic!), it seems like a different world than it used to be. At least different than the world that my parents and grandparents described.
Have you ever noticed that when you are really angry about something, or frustrated, or grieving, or depressed, or any of those things you don't really see things clearly?
God knows we get off course sometimes. Maybe flying a bit too high for our own good. He asks us for a correction. Sometimes he makes it for us. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect.
We may stop with "Love Works" or "Prayer Works" or "Meditation Works. They may indeed. But they are also potentially just on the path to a greater treasure awaiting us.
Is what we see everyday....in the physical world... the truth? Or is the truth in the spirit world? And which do we trust more? What we see? Or what we know?
RESISTANCE is something that WE CREATE. It does not exist naturally.
Nothing that has ever been invented, discovered or accomplished, has been done so by a quitter.
When all you that is left of you is that which is beautiful and sacred, You will hear the voice your God. You will realize the answers to your questions. You will see a clear path and a clear direction. There will be no more doubts and confusion.
Have you even met someone, and they speak in such a way that what they say, good or bad, sticks in your head, and just stays there? The things that they say are not any more profound or brilliant than what anyone else says, but they say it in a way or form that impacts you.
No one is an island. And as invaluable as our relationship with Jesus, who calls us brother is, Paul is incredibly and painfully aware of how important his and our relationships with our mortal brothers are as well.
Most people believe we come from the same source, we are not alone and without purpose. So, You are important. You are an INTEGRAL part of the universe.
I like when I know where I stand with a person. I respect when they have the INTEGRITY to represent themselves, as they are, without any gloss or false appearances.
I secretly wished to be a turtle as a boy. I hoped to wake up one morning with a shell, and be able to swim free forever.
You can take a candle and light another, and you have two flames... but the original flame is just as bright. When you light yet a third, the first is still not diminished.
How many times do we stumble before we either fall, or step over the stumbling block and turn it into a stepping stone? Here's some reasons why I think people ignore the inner voice and use REASONING to make bad decisions, and keep hitting roadblocks.
In the past, a persons word was their bond. Of course, now we request to see that a worker is BONDED before we take their word.
