One thing that really disappointed me while I was working at CIW (California Institution for Women) is if there was an emergency call from home you generally didn't get the message right away
It was not much longer after the mini-riot, sometime in 1989, that I had my first experience of having to take an inmate down to the ground and to use the minimal force to do so.
It was not too much longer after my experience with Inmate "D," that I mentioned in my previous article, that I was at work when we experienced our first riot.
After working the night shift for about a year at CIW (California Institution for Women) and about six months in San Diego, I finally had enough time in to work on day shift for awhile.
After such a such a horrible time with my breakdown I never wanted to go through that kind of episode again. To help with this they put me on medication that seemed to help tremendously. I went back to work in San Diego in January 1988.......
As I mentioned in my previous article, I was staying down in San Diego during the week and then on my days off I would come home to see my wife and kids. This was also another stressful trigger to my body, to just see them on the weekends.
Before my youngest son, Tiny Tim, was born I knew that I was going to have to continue to work through out the rest of the year to keep paying for all of my bills.
Some of my other experiences the first 6 months as a correctional officer.
My first six months as a correctional officer at the California Institution for Women....
My first week working in women's prison...
Not only did I have to be patient with life I had to learn how to be positive and make sure I kept the ship afloat by having a very healthy attitude with everything and keeping the "holes in the boat" patched up, so to speak, as the analogy goes.
The many blessings of just living living life and learning patience.
In the academy there were a lot of trials which tested my patience
The academy was one of the toughest things I have ever experienced.
Some of things I learned as a correctional officer on being patient.
