In 2007 I grabbed an opportunity to work (and play) in the Yucatan of Mexico from the US Texas coast and had the time of my life!

Now I'm back in southeast Texas and I still find fun!

I hope to help y'all have fun too by guiding you along with me through my writings.

Education/Experience: Magna Cum Laude high school, some Lamar University Beaumont Texas, experience galore in working for a State of Texas department and Texas major oil and chemical companies.

Interests: I am an absolute people person that likes to have a fun time!

Rebuilding communities and lives after a tragedy takes time, but given an army of helpful neighbors, the time seems to fly!
A commentary on the debate through the eyes of a middle income, single female, southeast Texan as the program is aired on television live.
People who have never thought of themselves as needy, now have a need for our help.
Our livestock - which I haven't even addressed in my writings - are in peril. Luckily we still have real cowboys that are helping with that situation. We already have alligator experts in the area that are working the situation with the wildlife folks.
Unless you have been through a trouble like hurricanes, you may not be able to fathom the destruction and the feelings we have.
It is heart wrenching to see all these people suffer the damage.
All information floating is surreal, but seeing it first hand is hard.
Oh, my the mess and the exercise I'm not use to!
It's good to be home, but MY, it hurts!
Being patient to return to your home is something we are having to do. Sometimes this is not an easy thing. You just don't seem to be able to truly relax and not have a nagging worry.
This is now after the fact information that I had heard and wanted to share with you. I'll still be out of my community for a little while.
I'm so thankful to be able to evacuate to a safer place and feel for those that have a harder time of dealing with a natural disaster.
Scared, tired, road weary - what else can describe an evacuation?
My work evacuation process is easy (boxing up files) compared to those who ready their half built progress on a construction site.
One evacuation that should have taken 5 hours took almost 20 and that taught me a lesson.
Too active a hurricane season here on the Gulf Coast. Costly, too.
This has been a very active hurricane season. It is very costly to up and travel and have a safe haven too.
Running from huricanes and possible damage two times in a week is just misery.
Regardless of the need to get out of harm's way, it costs money in many ways to up and evacuate as if an unscheduled vacation.
I'm really tired of hurricanes this year (and those past), but want to let everyone know how this goes.
Hurricane season can keep southeast Texas on the edge of nerves. 2005 got us, 2007 suprised us and now we running for the second time in 2008. Enough already! But poor Florida already this year and points out of the United States.
My feelings in southeast Texas watching more weather coming our way.
Now again in southeast Texas and batten down the hatches and getting the heck out of town (by a little).
The powers that could allow us some future relief in our pocket book don't seem to 'get it'. Why not? Could it be they don't have to pay thus don't see the problem?
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to two veterans of different US occupation areas open their hearts on live radio to describe the good things in the countries they were stationed.
If you have a potential dementia problem that will advance, do you want your physician to make you aware of the fact? I do, but others may not.
100 years????? What's up with that thought?
I've got things to do. I don't need scrum taking the stuff that is mine. I worked for it, I paid for it, they can't wear it or know how to operate it. Hello, pawn shops! That may be my stuff tomorrow that you see!
I thought I would dye my hair green for the day for the occasion. I then did a little research and well..............
I prefer lots of warm sunshine and a lot less clothing to the drab of winter.
Foods can warm and comfort when you really need it. What better way to feel so relaxed in the cold, dreary months of winter than with a warm bowl of homemade soup.
Exit polls are good for whom except the televised political programs? Are all the stands and comments of the issues are vague to anyone but me?
These are some of my favorite winter stew recipes that I make and grew up with in southeast Texas and some of the breads and other dishes I like too.
Friends have asked me for more information regarding Mardi Gras. I read much information on the www and learned quite a bit. Mardi Gras is much more than a party! Mardi Gras is a holiday season in its own right!
Although my family did not really celebrate this holiday in a big way, I'm still part Irish and love these foods!
Nowadays there are many people in the classroom and office. Rather than cooking recipe after recipe, pick one that is delicious and makes quite a few.
Family gatherings mean food! Menus in my family were always tiered for particular holidays and occasions. Easter means ham!!
Reminiscing of the great songs I used to 'fall in love' to make me feel good.
The things we don't want to think about are the very ones that we need to plan for. I didn't touch on pre-planning on burials.
Winter days in southeast Texas can change fast between dreary and beautiful, cold and warm. We can keep busy, entertained and well fed during all the fun things happening in our area.
Candidates do not truly seem to listen to all that the general public asks or demands of them if elected. How can they not?
We have Cajuns and wanna be's in our area too that LOVE Mardi Gras!
I don't have a New Year's like I grew up with.
Just another holiday in the life of a southern woman.
There is definitely an art to preparing holiday dinners for all your family members and friends year after year. It borders on martial arts.......
Little bit (very little) of history, but the tales of my day cruising downtown Merida, Yucatan, Mexico before the late night celebration. Almost all the big fun takes place here late in the evening!
Why do we even think that assistance from outside our little area would be in place immediately. We help ourselves and each other time and time again.
Why, when we're in a hurricane zone, are people and officials not ready when a hurricane strikes? I've been guilty of being tardy in preparations and running too, but the officials??? Things should ALWAYS be in place.
I am a southeast Texas gal that's use to hurricanes, but I'm in the Yucatan now looking one in the eye! Yipes!

Midday and it appears that Hurricane Dean will leave the upper Yucatan coast alone for the most part. He hasn't landed yet, so it is not a given.
Dean is scheduled to hit the Yucatan of Mexico today. Everything is ready at my apartment!
Only about 30 hours to go before Merida, Yucatan, Mexico comes face to face with Hurricane (Huracan) Dean ! All's ready.
Stocked up for a possible shelter in place from a massive storm, but pretty nervous. I am confident, however, that the Yucatan will weather both any storm and aftermath, well.
