Your title is misleading. Deleting cookies will generally slow down your computer when visiting a once-familiar site after removing cookies. Cookies store information that makes browsing a particular page faster if you have been there before. Also, unless you have a great deal of Temp files, deleting them is detrimental to the speed performance of your browser. Your browser often will load a cache of the page you're visiting and look for any changes. If there is no cache it must take the time to download the entire page again.

You could also tick "Delete all offline content" to free up space on the hard drive. And while your at it, if your a space junkie, go to settings, and set the total MB of storage at a lower number so it will take up less space!
