The Dark Side of YouTube

Rating: 2.8 of 5

This video is a commentary of some of the more disturbing aspects of YouTube. While there is some value in the site, I fear it is being overrun by people with narrow minds that are beginning to make it a hostile and close minded atmosphere

Sorry for the many comments, AC cuts my long winded replies off. A recent search of You Tube demographics shows the main viewers are in the 13 - 24 age group, a slight majority of males and ironically, more African-American users than not. There is also a light side of You Tube with things like "Stop The Clash of Civilizations", "Free Hugs Campaign" and the love, peace and joy stuff promoting "unity through diversity". Like the way you presented this in your video.

The comments got shut off completely after some posted at least 50 of the same ALL CAPS 5 line message filled with the F and N (ending in 'er') word and saying he "should be lynched." Sadly this stuff is not limited to the message boards, it is openly said on the streets. You Tube does have a "Code of Conduct" against that type of thing, but it is hard to report violations. The haters are the ones that scream the loudest about censorship.

I can also watch an old television broadcast where Malcolm X is explaining that the Black Muslims were not violent (we didn't bomb any churhes) and be amazed that 40 years later that same battle is still going on. Senator Obama's You Tube channel is a good example of the dark side of You Tube as seen through the comments and the young "porno" girls asking for viewers to their publically available smut. There were accusations that bordered on libel and could qualify as slander under the law. He was accused of censorship, even though he is a big proponent of free speech, even if he does not agree with what is said.

I no longer watch MTV but when I watch TV will watch BET and VH1, because I love music and I am way over 30. So I did not understand the "dated/propaganda" comment. You Tube is two years old, so rather new. I can start out somewhere on You Tube and end up watching the video from the first clip you included and learn something new. I can also go back in time and watch a video made from an old homemade movie showing the crowd chasing a gunman up a grassy knoll after JFK was shot. The television and newspapers at the time made the possiblility of another shooter a "conspiracy theroy" and I wonder about the Dallas residents that saw and chased this gunman.

Wow Ms. Drea. ZGood vid and I agree. Just the other day someone actually titled a video Beeyonce so people could look at it. It was really about how the (video) director didnt like the fact that Tiger Woods wife married him and had his baby. This person actually said some pretty awful things about black babies and how she could've had a blue eyed child instead. It was awful. On another note: Im fairly new to AC, i've been submitting articles and i'm loving it! Contact ne sometime. Amanda (suburban underground)

Hmm.. I have no clue as to what is being referred to as being dated? Nothing about your video seems dated to me? I agree, there are some very disturbing things about YouTube. I have never seen more hateful comments on the web than on youtube - and about everything (not just race). I've actually found it quite upsetting myself. Anyways, I appreciate this video. Good job.

I don't watch MTV, VH1 or BEt... most people over 30 like myself do not, so for us, it probably isn't outdated.

I understand your motive, but this is so dated, MTV, VH1, and BET have been overrun by these characters showcasing all their goods on TV, it's propaganda, so much of it is.
