After Christopher Columbus's arrival on the island in 1492, Santo Domingo became the site of the first cathedral, monastery, hospital, customs house and university in the Americas. This colonial town, founded in 1498, was laid out on a grid pattern that became the model for almost all town planners in the New World. UNESCO has declared the Colonial City a world heritage site.

I Love it!!! The music and images just take me back to that beautiful island. Thanks so much Yoly, for giving us such wonderful work. On suggestion: How about a video with images of dominican people, different occupations, etc? One way to show how beautiful and diverse is the dominican culture. Thanks.

The name of the song is "Compadre Pedro Juan", the merengue more emblematic and well-known. It represents unquestionably the Dominican Republic´s musical culture. Created by Luis Felipe Alberti Mieses. Per decades it has been interpreted in official and formal events and continues dragging the people from all the nationalities to move their bodies...to dance merengue.
