I saw that same show Micheal! When I was in Birmingham we used to take trips on the canals all the time, loved it.

Yes I was one lucky duck! I should have added the river rats that we also had to deal with but I was sticking to the positive. Mike you are very correct about the people that have to do the "feet" work as this system is also used as transportation for many industries. The vacations are not allowed if the water level is too low that a "intern captain" would run into trouble.

I saw this on Globe Travelers also, made me want to travel to ride this boat. They even talked about how the boat workers had to lay on their backs and put their feet on the ceiling to move the boat through the tunnels when they didn't have motors.
