Serial ATA and Parallel ATA hard drives are essentially the same thing. They ultimately accomplish the same task, which is to provide hard drive space for your computer. However, SATA hard drives are typically faster than their predecessor PATA.

This video briefly explains the differences between the two and it also shows you how to hook them up.
