YOUR HOLDING IT WRONG!!!! You should hold it only at the edges or on the lable, the oils from your skin and any dust n your fingers will dirty your record and make it degrade/scratch quicker. Also, when I begin to play the record I lift the lever and move the arm so that it's hovering over the track that I want to play, then I lover the lever so that the needle sets precisely on the grove without scratching it like you would by lowering the arm by hand, unless you happen to have an extrordinarily steady hand.

Awesome. I need to do an assignment on record players and I'm too young to know anything about them - this has REALLY helped. Thanks!

KEY RAP! Do you know how old this makes me feel! I'm going home and taking my 45's and 331/3's and 78's with me! I still have my cardboard green plaid covered 45 holder and a copy of the "Purple People Eater."
