A traditional yogic exercise, this balances the Ida and Pingala nadis, the two major astral pathways of electromagnetic and etheric flow of energy along the spine. This balances the personality, the brain hemispheres, the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, and allows the Kundalini to rise correctly if it so choses.
